We've seen a few lacrosse-style goals since Mike Legg pulled the move off at the University of Michigan in the 1996 NCAA tournament. It was done again on a big stage by the Wild's Mikael Granlund when he was playing for the Finnish national team.
The move has been pulled off a few times before, but that doesn't make it any less impressive when we see it. Especially when we see it from a high school player. On his backhand.
But we've seen it now. Bismarck Century High School (N.D.) player Alec Rauhauser, who is No. 196 on the Central Scouting Services North American skater rankings, pulled off the move in a game against cross-town rival Bismarck High.
He didn't have much opposition on the play but that doesn't matter, that took some real skill to pull it off in the game. You can see by the reaction of the Bismarck High players that they weren't quite sure what happened or what they could have even done about it.
The answer is not much.
