Report: QB Jason Campbell set to retire
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Quarterback Jason Campbell is planning to retire, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. The 10-year veteran has yet to make his decision official, however.

Campbell spent the 2014 season as the backup with Cincinnati, but he last earned significant playing time with Cleveland the previous year.

If he indeed calls it a career, he will finish it with 16,771 yards, 87 touchdowns and 60 interceptions. He served as a full-time starter only with Washington from 2006-2009 and with Oakland in 2010.

Marvin Lewis: Bengals' back-up QB job is AJ McCarron's to lose
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

AJ McCarron will be the Bengals' back-up quarterback at the start of 2015, Marvin Lewis told the media on Tuesday.

In a media appearance at the NFL Owners Meetings, Lewis said that the team may bring back last year's number-two quarterback, Jason Campbell, but he said the job is McCarron's to lose.

"AJ McCarron has everything that you want in a quarterback, a successful quarterback in the NFL,' Lewis said, per Bengals.com. "We’ll have some additions to the position that AJ will compete with and we just have to go forward that way."

Marvin Lewis: 'No problem with Andy Dalton as our quarterback'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

The Bengals are sticking with Andy Dalton at quarterback and have no plans to bring in competition. But coach Marvin Lewis didn't exactly give Dalton a ringing endorsement.

Noting Dalton, Carson Palmer and Jon Kitna have started all but 12 of his 198 games as Cincy's coach, Lewis said he prefers the status quo.

“Fortunately, somehow I’ve got the right little thing on my shoulder that says, ‘Don’t get into a quarterback controversy,’” Lewis told the team's website. “That’s worked from Jon to Carson to Andy. It’s helped us have the success we’ve had and those guys have been good players, productive players. Even when they’ve left out of here they’ve been productive. It works.

“We have no problem with Andy Dalton as our quarterback. We don’t have time to waste time with another QB. To not continue to press forward and get Andy better and to get whoever the backup quarterbacks are better. The quarterback competition. Where has it worked? It doesn’t get you wins.”

The team hopes to re-sign Jason Campbell as Dalton's backup.

Andy Dalton not expected to face competition
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

The Bengals aren't expected to draft a quarterback and are prepared to enter 2015 with the same three quarterbacks they had this season, reports the team's website. That means Andy Dalton starting, Jason Campbell backing him up and AJ McCarron as the developmental project.

“He’s our guy and we’re not going to shy away from that,” offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said of Dalton.

Added quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese: “He was better with the intangibles this year and the ball was better coming out of his hand. You could see that right away when he came back from the last offseason.”

Jackson hopes the team re-signs Campbell, an impending free agent, saying Campbell "did a sensational job in the role we asked him to play."
