Cardinals' Isaiah Simmons: Opens career with three tackles
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Simmons had three solo tackles during Sunday's 24-20 win at San Francisco.

The Cardinals invested the eighth pick in the 2020 draft on Simmons, but the rookie didn't pay dividends in his pro debut. In fact, he had a difficult day, getting called for a horse collar tackle on the first play from scrimmage and taking a horrible angle near the start of Raheem Mostert's eventual 76-yard catch and run for a TD on the 49ers' second possession. By game's end, Simmons logged 18 snaps on defense, while starting inside linebackers Jordan Hicks and De'Vondre Campbell played all 62. It appears Simmons will be easing into the NFL, but his versatility may allow him to get reps as both a pass rusher and perhaps even at safety due to the ankle injury suffered by Jalen Thompson in Week 1.

Cardinals' Isaiah Simmons: To play linebacker
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said Simmons will play linebacker with the Cardinals, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Selected eighth overall in the 2020 draft, Simmons brings a ton of versatility to the pros, with the ability to serve as a run defender, nickel corner and safety. Joseph called Simmons a "problem solver," so he seemingly will get a chance to play all of those roles. Simmons was tabbed as the 2019 Butkus Award winner, when he collected 102 tackles (16 for loss), eight sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 15 games for Clemson.

Cardinals' Isaiah Simmons: Eighth overall selection to Arizona
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Cardinals selected Simmons in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, eighth overall.

Simmons (6-foot-4, 238) is capable of playing many or most defensive positions, but it would probably be an underestimation to call the former Clemson star a 'jack of all trades.' Something more like a king of all trades could be in play, because Simmons' elite athleticism (4.39-second 40, 39-inch vertical, 132-inch broad jump) leaves him with room to project further developmental upside. Capable of run defense, pass rush and coverage from all of the linebacker, nickel corner and safety positions, Simmons should be the modern Julian Peterson.
