Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Four targets Week 1
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz caught one of four targets for 11 yards in Sunday's loss to the Rams.

Dak Prescott looked his way more often after Blake Jarwin hurt his knee in the first half, but the extra targets didn't result in much production for Schultz. With Jarwin feared to be lost for the season due to a torn ACL, Schultz could step into a much more significant role in the offense as the Cowboys' primary receiving tight end with Blake Bell mainly handling blocking assignments.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Minimal role in 2019
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz wrapped up the regular season having caught one of two targets for six yards.

While he played in every game, Schultz never saw more than 17 snaps on offense in any given week and the second-year tight end had basically no role as a receiver working behind Jason Witten and Blake Jarwin. Even if Witten heads back into retirement, Schultz likely wouldn't get enough targets in 2020 to make a fantasy impact with Jarwin very clearly the heir apparent at the position.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Sees just one snap in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz played just one offensive snap in Monday night's win over the Giants.

That marks a new low for the season for Schultz as he's currently buried on the tight-end depth chart for the Cowboys behind Jason Witten and Blake Jarwin. The second-year pro has just one target on the year, hauling it in for a six-yard gain back in Week 6 against the Jets.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Returns to practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz (ankle) participated at Monday's practice, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Schultz dealt with the ankle injury through much of the preseason but appears on track to be ready for Sunday's season opener against the Giants. The 23-year-old projects to serve as the third tight end for the Cowboys.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Still nursing ankle injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz (ankle) did not participate at practice Wednesday, the Cowboys' official site reports.

Schultz played 27 offensive snaps during the preseason opener but hasn't practiced in almost two weeks due to the ankle sprain. Codey McElroy (neck) and Blake Jarwin (ankle) are also managing injuries, leaving the Cowboys short on tight end depth.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Managing ankle injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz did not practice Monday due to an ankle injury, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Schultz is reportedly considered day-to-day. As long as the 2018 fourth-round pick remains sidelined, Codey McElroy and Marcus Lucas stand to see increased reps behind veteran tight end Jason Witten.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Stuck sharing snaps again
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz figures to share playing time with Jason Witten and Blake Jarwin in 2019, Clarence Hill of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

A 2018 fourth-round pick, Schultz caught 12 passes for 116 yards in 11 games during his rookie season while sharing snaps with Jarwin, Geoff Swaim and Rico Gathers. The Cowboys allowed Swaim to leave for Jacksonville, but the majority of his 512 snaps from 2018 likely will be filled by Witten, who reportedly is ticketed for about 25 plays per game. It will be difficult for any one player to emerge from the committee with fantasy relevance, and Witten would probably be the best bet to do so.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Quiet rookie campaign
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz played in 11 games in 2018, catching 12 passes on 17 targets for 116 yards.

The fourth-round pick out of Stanford didn't produce many highlights as a rookie, with modest single-game highs of three catches and 37 yards. Blake Jarwin's emergence late in the season will give Schultz an uphill climb in camp next summer if he wants to win the Cowboys' starting tight end spot even if he shows significant development, but with Geoff Swaim a free agent, there could still be plenty of snaps available for Schultz as the team's No. 2 TE.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Carving out modest role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz has drawn seven targets over the Cowboys' last two games, catching six of them for 60 yards.

While the rookie's snap count has been boosted since Geoff Swaim (wrist) got hurt, Schultz hasn't started seeing regular looks from Dak Prescott until the last couple of weeks. Blake Jarwin has emerged as the team's primary pass catcher at tight end, however, putting a significant damper on Schultz's fantasy potential.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Role to expand in Week 12
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Jason Garrett said Tuesday that the Cowboys would lean more heavily on Schultz in the team's Thanksgiving Day game against the Redskins with Geoff Swaim (wrist) sidelined, Calvin Watkins of The Athletic reports. "He's a capable guy," Garrett said of Schultz. "Just needs to play more."

Owner Jerry Jones said earlier Tuesday in his weekly radio appearance that Swaim would likely be sidelined for 3-to-4 weeks after requiring wrist surgery, leaving the Cowboys without their top tight end for multiple games. While Dallas will likely lean on a committee that also includes Blake Jarwin and Rico Gathers to fill in for Swaim, Schultz seemingly projects as the preferred option of the lot by virtue of leading the trio in offensive snaps the past three weeks. Even so, Schultz doesn't make for a particularly intriguing fantasy dart in Week 12, given the likelihood that he'll split work in addition to the fact that Swaim had a fairly minimal role in the team's passing attack.

Cowboys' Dalton Schultz: Catches first career pass
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Schultz caught one of three targets for 12 yards during Sunday's 20-17 loss to Washington.

The three targets were Schultz's first bit of action on offense this season after being picked in the fourth round of this year's draft out of Stanford. More passes may be on the way. Starter Geoff Swaim is currently battling a sprained MCL ahead of the bye. Should Swaim be unavailable Week 9 against a stingy Titans defense, the rookie figures to battle Blake Jarwin and Rico Gathers -- with just four catches between them this season -- for targets. Keep an eye on Swaim's health and how the depth chart shakes out in the weeks ahead.
