Bears' Tarik Cohen: Finds end zone again
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed nine times for 39 yards and caught five passes (six targets) for 35 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 17-7 loss to the Rams.

David Montgomery (ankle) was able to suit up and dominated the backfield carries, but it was Cohen who benefited from Mitch Trubisky's lone touchdown pass in a losing effort. The receiving back has caught touchdowns in consecutive weeks and three on the season (none on the ground). The Bears' stagnant offense -- which is primarily hampered by its quarterback's struggles -- has kneecapped Cohen's ability to put up fantasy-worthy numbers. The 24-year-old has accumulated just 367 total yards through 10 games, after racking up 1,169 yards in a similar role last season. The inconsistent production should keep Cohen limited as a fringe PPR option against the Giants in Week 12.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: May benefit if Montgomery sits
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen could be in store for a heightened role out of the backfield Sunday against the Rams with starter David Montgomery (ankle) viewed as a game-time decision, Nathan Smith of the Bears' official site reports.

The 5-foot-6, 191-pound Cohen already sees a sizable role in the passing game (6.1 targets per game), but Montgomery's potential absence would create a major void on the ground. While third-string option Ryan Nall is a better fit to absorb most of Montgomery's work between the tackles, Cohen should nonetheless benefit from at least a slight uptick in carries in the event the rookie is sidelined. Cohen hasn't handled more than five carries in any game this season and is averaging 2.7 yards per tote, well below his career rate (4.1 YPC).

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Finds end zone
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed three times for 14 yards and caught four passes for 23 yards and a touchdown in Chicago's 20-13 victory over the Lions on Sunday.

Cohen made the most of his seven touches and salvaged his fantasy day by catching a screen pass in the red zone for a short touchdown. He hasn't had more than seven touches in any of his last three games, and he's yet to total 50 yards in any game, making him merely a flex option. However, he has slightly higher value in leagues that award a point per reception.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Receives four touches
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed twice for seven yards and caught two passes for nine yards in Chicago's 22-14 loss to the Eagles on Sunday.

Cohen tied for the team lead with five targets, but even when he caught the football, he was tackled immediately. Despite his lack of involvement, he had a chance to score a touchdown on one of his rushing attempts, but he was ruled out of bounds just short of the goal line. He's averaging just 30 yards per game with only one touchdown, and his combination of a low floor and low ceiling makes him a difficult player to trust in fantasy lineups, though he has slightly elevated value in point-per-reception leagues.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Targeted six times
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed four times for nine yards and caught three passes for 37 yards in Chicago's 17-16 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.

With this game being close throughout, the Bears were able to commit to David Montgomery as the primary running back, which kept Cohen from seeing more than three targets. He did most of his damage when lined up as a slot receiver, catching a 31-yard pass down the seam to move the offense into scoring position. He's yet to rush for 20 yards in a game this season and has reached 40 receiving yards just once, and aside from averaging six receptions per contest, he's been a low-upside fantasy option in 2019.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Targeted 10 times
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed three times for 10 yards and caught nine passes for 19 yards in Chicago's 36-25 loss to the Saints on Sunday.

With the Chicago offense in complete disarray and unable to sustain drives, Cohen was needed to take pressure off Mitchell Trubisky. As a result, he was targeted 10 times, though he was barely able to exceed 2.0 yards per reception on his nine catches. He's only reached 30 combined yards once over his last five contests, and unless the situation changes, it would take a leap of faith to start him in fantasy lineups -- with the exception of PPR leagues, where he can get easy points for catches.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Logs 10 touches
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen caught six passes for 39 yards and rushed four times for 10 yards in the Bears' 24-21 loss to the Raiders on Sunday.

With Chicago falling behind 17-0 at the half, they had to lean upon their passing attack to get back into the game. That led to Cohen seeing more snaps than David Montgomery while also being second on the team in targets. Although he caught all but one of his targets, he was unable to post a reception of longer than 12 yards. Although it didn't help most fantasy owners, his biggest play of the game was a long punt return that helped get the Bears back into the contest. This was the first time since Week 1 that he's been targeted more than twice in a game, and he's yet to see more than five carries in any contest, making him little more than a flex option in fantasy leagues.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Finds end zone
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed five times for 11 yards while adding two receptions for seven yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 16-6 win over the Vikings on Sunday.

Cohen appeared to be an integral part of the Bears game plan against a stout Minnesota defense. On the first drive of the contest, Mitchell Trubisky was knocked out of the contest, but Chase Daniel connected with him on a short touchdown pass. Once Chicago took control of this contest shortly after halftime, Cohen was used sparingly while David Montgomery took over the majority of the backfield work. Cohen has yet to have more than seven touches in any contest this year, capping his fantasy value as a flex option unless he begins to see more opportunities.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Quiet in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen lost two yards on four carries, but caught two of four targets for 26 yards in Monday night's 31-15 win over the Redskins.

Cohen was held in check once again, but at least ripped off a season-long, 24-yard reception Monday. He also placed third on the team in receiving, but is yet to top 50 yards through the air this season. With zero touchdowns to date, either, Cohen will be desperate to get going in Week 4, but his matchup against a tough Vikings defense is hardly ideal.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Receives six touches
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed four times for 18 yards while adding a pair of receptions for an additional seven yards in Chicago's 16-14 victory over the Broncos on Sunday.

Aside from David Montgomery, Cohen was the second-most utilized player on the Chicago offense. Although he didn't do much with his opportunities, facing a stiff Denver front seven made it difficult for the Bears to sustain much consistent offense. He'll likely be a volatile fantasy option who should have his best performances in shootouts and when the Bears are playing from behind.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Heavy workload as receiver
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen did not log a carry but brought in eight of 10 targets for 49 yards in the Bears' 10-3 loss to the Packers on Thursday. He also returned four punts for 36 yards.

Cohen ceded all complementary rushing work to offseason acquisition Mike Davis, but he ended up pacing the Bears in catches for the night. The versatile back saw game script work in his favor during the fourth quarter with Chicago in catch-up mode. If Thursday's workload distribution is any indication, Cohen could featured much less as a runner this season with Davis in the fold, but the atypical nature of the contest makes it hard to draw any lasting conclusions for the time being. Cohen will look to continue shining as a pass catcher versus the Broncos in a Week 2 interconference matchup a week from Sunday.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Could have simplified role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Matt Nagy said Tuesday that he may have asked Cohen to do too much late last season, Patrick Finley of The Chicago Sun-Times reports. "I do feel like there was a time -- probably later in the season -- where we probably gave [Cohen] a little bit too much,'' Nagy said. ''And when you mentally drain them, it pulls them back physically.''

Nagy seems to be referring to what he asked of Cohen from a mental standpoint rather than the number of snaps or touches he gave the running back. In addition to his primary role as a passing-down back, Cohen poached some carries from Jordan Howard on early downs, took snaps lined up in the slot or out wide, and even returned punts and a couple kickoffs. The 24-year-old still should handle all those functions to some extent, but he may face less of a burden if the Bears get a healthier season from slot receiver Anthony Miller (ankle), as well as some pass-catching contributions from backfield additions David Montgomery and Mike Davis. Part of the pressure on Cohen last season was a product of Howard's shortcomings in the passing game and Miller's repeated struggles with a dislocated shoulder. Things appear less promising from a fantasy perspective, as improved balance on offense could cost Cohen some touches compared to last season.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Out for Friday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen isn't expected to suit up for Friday's preseason contest against the Giants.

For the second week in a row, Cohen will remain on the sidelines. On this occasion, though, he'll be joined by rookie running back David Montgomery, leaving backfield reps to Mike Davis, Ryan Nall and Kerrith Whyte. Considering coach Matt Nagy knows what Cohen brings to the offense, the RB is unlikely to see the field before the regular season, when he'll resume a pass-catching role.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Sitting out Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen isn't expected to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Panthers.

Coach Matt Nagy won't risk the health of several key skill-position players, including Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and Trey Burton. Cohen himself is part of a new-look backfield in the wake of Jordan Howard's departure. While Cohen is expected to hold onto his change-of-pace role in the Bears offense, 2019 third-round pick David Montgomery and free-agent signing Mike Davis will vie for early-down and short-yardage work.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Preparing for same role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen doesn't expect his role to change this upcoming season, SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. "I feel like I'm going to be doing the same things I was doing last year," Cohen said. "My role is not going to change. I feel like I still have to be the receiving back, come in and be the change-of-pace back, running the ball, be that speed guy."

Jordan Howard took 250 carries, 26 targets and 624 snaps from last season out the door to Philadelphia, but the Bears replaced him with Mike Davis (two-year, $6 million contract) and rookie David Montgomery (third-round pick). Cohen apparently expects those two players to handle most of the vacated workload, freeing him up to focus on what he does best, namely catching short passes and running outside the tackle box. His role last season allowed for a No. 17 finish among running backs in standard scoring and No. 11 in PPR, though inconsistent production made him less valuable than the cumulative numbers suggest in most fantasy formats. Cohen had five games with 50 or fewer scrimmage yards and no touchdown, while three big performances accounted for 50.6 percent of his 725 receiving yards. He's unlikely to repeat the extreme level of inconsistency, but there's still potential for a disappearing act when the Bears jump out to an early lead and become less aggressive on offense.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Competing with Davis, rookie
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen is now competing with Mike Davis and David Montgomery for backfield snaps, Rich Campbell of The Chicago Tribune reports.

Cohen's pass-catching prowess gives him the best role security of the trio, but Chicago didn't make significant investments in Davis (two-year, $6 million contract) and Montgomery (third-round pick) just to watch them linger on the bench. Of course, the team lost 624 snaps, 250 carries and 26 targets from 2018 when Jordan Howard was traded to Philadelphia, so there is room for both Davis and Montgomery to earn roles without infringing on Cohen's workload (495 snaps, 99 carries, 91 targets). The third-year scatback also has proven effective from the slot, allowing coach Matt Nagy to keep two running backs on the field at times.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Thriving under new head coach
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed 99 times for 444 yards and three touchdowns while securing 71 of 91 targets for 725 yards and five touchdowns over 16 games in 2018.

The arrival of ex-Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy worked wonders for Cohen, who generated eight touchdowns and 1,200 scrimmage yards in his first season under the first-year head coach. The same can't be said for fellow running back Jordan Howard, who ultimately finished the year with career lows in carries, rushing yards and yards per carry while seeing Cohen eat into his workload. The Bears' wild-card loss to the Eagles was a bitter way to end the season for the versatile scatback -- Cohen gained just 27 yards with no scores on four touches -- but he averaged 10.6 touches and 73.1 scrimmage yards per game during the regular season, setting him up for another solid season in Year 2 under Nagy in 2019.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Scores eighth touchdown of season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed five times for 24 yards and a touchdown in Chicago's Week 17 victory over the Vikings, and he ended the season with 1,189 total yards and eight touchdowns.

Although he was the Bears' primary receiving weapon out of the backfield this year, his usage was erratic on a week-to-week basis, making him a volatile fantasy option. Signed through 2020, he'll likely continue to see his role grow in the offense, giving him the potential to see a leap in his fantasy production.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Disappointing effort
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen rushed six times for 12 yards while catching one pass for an additional seven yards in Chicago's Week 16 victory over the 49ers.

Cohen was clearly not a part of the game plan, as he was targeted just a single time while being used as nothing more than a change of pace in the running game to Jordan Howard. He's now been held to fewer than 60 total yards in six of his last eight games, and he'll finish the regular season with a tough matchup at Minnesota.

Bears' Tarik Cohen: Scores, fumbles in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cohen ran for 21 yards on five carries and added 31 yards and a touchdown on five receptions during Sunday's 24-17 win over the Packers. He lost a fumble during the contest.

Cohen put Chicago up by two scores in the closing seconds of the first half, taking the dump pass out in the flat and beating the defense to the pylon for a 12-yard touchdown catch. Cohen is averaging seven catches per game and has two touchdown receptions in his last four games -- obviously buoyed by his monster Week 13 performance against the Giants. Fumbles remain a concern, however, as he has fumbled six times, losing three, in his last 10 games. Fortunately, next Sunday's opponent, the 49ers, has recovered just one fumble this season.
