Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Not targeted Week 1
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe was not targeted during Sunday's divisional loss to the Patriots.

Smythe, despite being listed as the starter on Miami's first unofficial depth chart of the year, only handled 13 offensive snaps (21 percent) compared to Mike Gesicki's 45 snaps (73 percent). Additionally, Gesicki accounted for all five of the targets that went to Miami's tight end position. Smythe could see more workload as a blocker as the season continues, particularly if Miami's ground game can get going, but his fantasy floor essentially remains nonexistent.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Listed atop depth chart
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Miami listed Smythe as its top tight end on the unofficial depth chart the team released Monday, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Miami's decision to list Smythe as the No. 1 option on the depth chart perhaps hints that new offensive coordinator is placing a greater emphasis on blocking from the tight-end position. If that's indeed the case, it would spell bad news for Mike Gesicki, who broke out late in 2019 to finish his second season with 51 receptions for 570 yards and five touchdowns. While Gesicki remains entrenched as Miami's clear top pass-catching tight end, he could notice a decline in his overall snap count if the Dolphins choose to feature Smythe more in less obvious passing scenarios. Conversely, Smythe could see a boost in his overall target total simply by being on the field more often, but he's still unlikely to see nearly enough volume to emerge as a viable fantasy option.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: One catch in finale
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe secured one of three targets for eight yards during Week 17's win over the Patriots.

Smythe once again served as the No. 2 tight end behind Mike Gesicki during Miami's regular-season finale, doing most of his damage as a blocker. The second-year pro played in all 16 games during the 2019 season, during which he caught seven of 14 targets for 65 yards. He stands to reprise a similar role behind Gesicki in 2020.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Practices without limitations
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe (quadriceps) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.

Smythe was limited in practice to begin the week, but he now looks back to full health. He'll play his usual role behind starter Mike Gesicki in Miami's tight end corps Week 17.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Deemed limited in practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe (quadriceps) was credited with a limited practice Wednesday, Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Smythe must have picked up the injury in Sunday's win over the Bengals, yet it wouldn't have sidelined him completely if the Dolphins had actually held practice Wednesday. The 24-year-old's status bears monitoring over the course of the week.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Upgrades to full practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe (knee/elbow) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.

Smythe was limited during Wednesday's practice due to knee and elbow injuries, and he's already resumed participating without limitations. The second-year pro looks primed for his usual depth role against the Bills on Sunday.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Nursing two injuries
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe (knee/elbow) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.

It's never good to have multiple injuries in tow, but it's a positive sign that Smythe still got on the practice field. The second-year tight end is used mainly in a blocking role, as he has run a route on 46.3 percent of his snaps. His status for Sunday's game against the Bills doesn't appear to be in jeopardy yet, but Chandler Cox and Clive Walford are waiting in the wings in case Smythe can't go.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Held without a catch
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe failed to catch his only target during Sunday's 31-6 loss to the Cowboys.

Smythe played 40 snaps on offense (56 percent) but was mostly utilized as a blocker. He projects to play a similar role against the Chargers in Week 4.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Big catch in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe caught his only target for 24 yards during Sunday's 43-0 loss to the Patriots.

Smythe's 24-yard catch was the longest of his career. It's encouraging to see the second-year tight end flash as a receiver, but he still appears set to primarily serve a blocking role behind top option Mike Gesicki.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Limited to blocking role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe played 12 snaps on offense without a target in Sunday's 59-10 loss to the Ravens.

Smythe is working to develop as a blocker and stands to continue splitting depth snaps with Nick O'Leary. Fellow second-year pro Mike Gesicki stands to receive the vast majority of Miami's targets to the tight end position, leaving Smythe with negligible fantasy value for 2019.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Career-high catches Week 17
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe caught three of four targets for 14 yards during Sunday's 42-17 loss to the Bills. He ends the season with six receptions for 50 yards.

Smythe led the Dolphins' tight ends in receiving during the season-finale, though his stats don't stand out. The 2018 fourth-round pick progressed well in his development through his rookie season, and even managed to overtake Nick O'Leary (listed as the No. 1 tight end on Miami's depth chart) in terms of offensive snaps during the last two games of the season. Likely to be primarily used as a blocker to pair with Mike Gesicki's receiving chops, Smythe is a key part of the Dolphins' plans for 2019 and beyond.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Limited usage in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe caught one of two targets during Sunday's 17-7 loss to the Jaguars.

Smythe led the Dolphins' tight ends in both targets and yards during the Week 16 loss. The rookie fourth-round pick has seen much of his usage as a blocker, but has looked solid as a pass-catcher when called upon. Though Smythe has not achieved fantasy relevance this season, he'll be an integral part of Miami's plans going forward.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Catches first NFL passes
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe nabbed both of his targets for 27 yards during Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Colts.

Smythe recorded a career high in targets while also leading Miami's tight ends in receptions during the Week 12 loss. It's encouraging that the rookie fourth-round pick showcased some pass-catching chops, but he's unlikely to continue receiving offensive targets on a weekly basis. Heading into the Week 13 tilt against the Bills, Smythe is buried behind Nick O'Leary, A.J. Derby (foot) and Mike Gesicki on the depth chart.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Sees limited action in return
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe played in just five offensive snaps in Sunday's win over the Bears.

Smythe was dealing with an ankle injury late in the week, but he was ultimately cleared to play. Smythe, however, is currently buried on the Dolphins' depth chart and will likely continue seeing very limited work unless more injuries hit the position.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Cleared to play Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe (ankle) doesn't carry an injury designation going into Sunday's matchup against the Bears, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.

Smythe popped up on the injury report Thursday with a limited participation in practice, but was able to practice fully Friday. While the Notre Dame product is third on the depth chart, he could see an increased workload if fellow tight end A.J. Derby (foot) misses time Sunday.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Surfaces on injury report
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe was limited in Thursday's practice with an ankle injury, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.

This is Smythe's first appearance on the injury report this week, so it's likely he hurt his ankle during Wednesday's practice. Being simply limited, there's a good chance he still plays Sunday versus the Bears, but Friday's practice will be more telling. The rookie fifth-round pick has suited up for all five games, but he's failed to come up with either of his two targets.

Dolphins' Durham Smythe: Silent in Week 4
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smythe failed to catch his only target during the Dolphins' 38-7 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.

Smythe played only two offensive snaps Sunday, ceding the vast majority of Miami's tight end workload to rookie Mike Gesicki. Even if A.J. Derby (foot) remains sidelined for a significant amount of time, it's unlikely that Smythe will carve out a notable role in the Dolphins offense.
