Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Signs two-year extension
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins is signing a two-year contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Cousins signed a fully guaranteed three-year, $84 million contract during the 2018 offseason, and the Vikings have seen enough to know that they want him around past 2020. The 31-year-old quarterback has completed 69.7 percent of his passes for 7.5 yards per attempt in a Minnesota uniform, tossing 56 touchdowns against 16 interceptions in 31 regular-season games. Cousins will work with a new offensive coordinator in 2020, as the Vikings have promoted Gary Kubiak to replace Kevin Stefanski.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Struggles in San Francisco
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 21 of 29 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown with one interception in Saturday's 27-10 loss to the 49ers in the NFC divisional round.

The Minnesota offense couldn't get much going either on the ground or through the air against one of the league's elite defenses, and while Cousins was accurate, he had little luck stretching the field aside from a 41-yard TD strike to Stefon Diggs in the first quarter. The 31-year-old QB finished his second regular season with the Vikings having completed 69.1 percent of his passes for 3,603 yards and a sharp 26:6 TD:INT through 15 games, as well as an 8.1 YPA that was a full yard better than last year's performance. Dalvin Cook figures to be the focal point of the team's attack again in 2020 barring a major shakeup in the coaching staff, but Cousins demonstrated this season that he's more effective when he isn't called upon to carry the offense himself.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Throws winning TD pass
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 19 of 31 pass attempts for 242 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 26-20 wild-card win over the Saints.

Cousins struggled in the early going, taking a back seat as the rushing attack carried the team. He was pressed into action in the second half and in overtime, when he led the team down the field before completing the game-winning touchdown to Kyle Rudolph. The veteran primarily connected with Adam Thielen, who broke off several big gains while piling up 129 yards. Although Cousins came out on top in this one, he didn't exactly light up the scoreboard and could be hard-pressed to do so again in next Saturday's divisional-round matchup with the 49ers.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Active, but likely working as backup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins is active for Sunday's game against the Bears but is expected to serve as the backup to Sean Mannion, Courtney Cronin of reports.

The Vikings haven't officially confirmed that Cousins won't start like he usually does, but with Minnesota already locked in as the NFC's No. 6 seed entering Sunday, there's little incentive for the team to exposing its top quarterback to a potential injury in a meaningless season finale. As Cronin notes, the fact the Vikings have made both of their starting offensive tackles (Riley Reiff and Brian O'Neill) healthy inactives is a sign Cousins will only play in an emergency.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Not expected to play
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins and other Vikings starters are expected to be held out of Sunday's game against the Bears, Courtney Cronin of reports.

The Vikings haven't finalized their plans but are reportedly leaning in this direction. Other candidates for rest and/or limited snaps include Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and Kyle Rudolph, along with banged-up running backs Dalvin Cook (shoulder) and Alexander Mattison (ankle). Sean Mannion is next up at quarterback, while Mike Boone, Ameer Abdullah, Bisi Johnson and Laquon Treadwell are the best bets to take on the vacated carries and targets.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: May not start against Chicago
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins doesn't know how much he'll play this week against the Bears or whether he'll play at all, the team's official web site reports. "Certainly would love to be able to play well and get a bad taste out of your mouth, and we'll see what ends up being the right call," he said.

With the Vikings locked into the No. 6 playoff seed, there's nothing to play for this week against Chicago. Head coach Mike Zimmer hasn't said whether he'll rest his starters and may not announce a decision until kickoff. Cousins is a risky fantasy option as a result. However, the Vikings may play their starters for a quarter or two after a poor offensive performance in last week's loss to Green Bay.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: MNF struggles continue
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 16 of 31 passes for 122 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Monday's 23-10 loss to Green Bay.

Cousins struggled outside of a 21-yard touchdown to Stefon Diggs, which put Minnesota ahead 10-3 in the second quarter. He had a would-be 53-yard touchdown to Bisi Johnson in the fourth quarter erased on an offensive holding call and failed to move the offense effectively as he fell to a remarkable 0-9 on Monday Night Football. With seeding still at stake against the Bears in Week 17, Cousins will need to bounce back quickly. Hopefully standout running back Dalvin Cook (chest) will return and bring back the play-action threat Cousins needs to thrive.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Quiet in blowout victory
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 19 of 25 pass attempts for 207 yards, one touchdown, and one interception Sunday against the Chargers, adding 14 rushing yards in the 39-10 victory.

Cousins completed 76 percent of his passes while his team's defense and rushing attack allowed him to take a risk-averse approach. He averaged 8.3 yards per attempt and threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Irv Smith on the opening possession, but the lopsided nature of the game limited the necessity to pass. Next Monday's game against the Packers should be much more competitive, and with Dalvin Cook (shoulder) potentially sidelined, Cousins could be asked to throw early and often.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Manages Vikings to win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 24 of 30 pass attempts for 242 yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 14 win over the Lions.

Cousins failed to throw multiple touchdowns for the first time in four contests and attempted just 10 passes in the second half. He made the best of his limited volume, however, averaging 8.1 yards per pass attempt. His performance was highlighted by several long plays, including a 44-yard completion to Stefon Diggs as well as a 36-yard connection with Laquon Treadwell. Cousins draws a matchup against the Chargers in Week 15.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Comes up short in Week 13 loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 22 of 38 passes for 276 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Vikings' 37-30 loss to the Seahawks on Monday.

Cousins had to make do without the services of Adam Thielen (hamstring) once again, which diluted his options in what turned out to be a high-scoring affair. The veteran quarterback battled through, however, hitting Laquon Treadwell and Kyle Rudolph for touchdown passes of 58 and three yards, respectively, in the fourth quarter to almost spearhead a comeback from a 34-17 deficit. However, Cousins' one error was a costly one, as his interception on the first play of the final period gave the Seahawks the ball at the Vikings' 25-yard line, field position they'd turn into a Rashaad Penny touchdown catch. The pick was only Cousins' fourth of the season, and he did mange to extend his multi-touchdown streak to four games. He'll look to help Minnesota bounce back in a Week 14 divisional battle versus the Lions.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Leads big comeback
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 29 of 35 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns during Sunday's 27-23 win over Denver. He lost a fumble during the contest.

It was a tale of two halves as the Denver defense absolutely harassed Cousins before halftime, but the red-hot passer was able to lead touchdown drives on all four of Minnesota's possessions in the second half. The prettiest was a 54-yard bomb to Stefon Diggs early in the fourth quarter to bring Minnesota to within a score. Cousins sold a beautiful play-action fake, slid way out to his left and found Diggs flying up field. Cousins has been a completely different quarterback since Week 4's loss to Chicago, completing at least 70 percent of his passes in six of seven games and boasting a TD:INT of 18:1 all while Minnesota has gone on a 6-1 run. Next up, after the bye, is a visit to Seattle, where the Seahawks have struggled against the pass this season.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Throws for two scores in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 23 of 32 pass attempts for 220 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Sunday's 28-24 win over the Cowboys.

Cousins was constantly under pressure by the Cowboys' fierce pass rush anytime he would drop back to pass, which is the main reason for a sub-par mark of 6.9 yards per attempt. The veteran signal-caller was able to take what the defense gave him, which were short dump-offs to Dalvin Cook (86 of Cousins' 220 passing yards came on screen or swing passes to his running back). Cousins has quashed media criticism by providing more wins for his club of late, but his last three fantasy performances have felt lackluster. We could be in store for more of the same in Week 11 against a Denver defense that can be attacked on the ground but can be tough on opposing quarterbacks.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Three-touchdown effort in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 19 of 38 passes for 220 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Vikings' 26-23 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. He also rushed once for five yards.

Cousins dealt with the early exit of Adam Thielen (hamstring), who reinjured his leg in the first quarter and never returned. That may have helped lead to Cousins generating his second-lowest completion percentage of the season, but he still found a way to his fourth multi-touchdown effort in the last five games by notching scoring tosses to Bisi Johnson, Ameer Abdullah and Kyle Rudolph. Cousins now has three straight interception-free efforts, and he'll look to continue building momentum at the expense of the Cowboys in Week 10.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Near-perfect effort in Week 8 win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 23 of 26 passes for 285 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Vikings' 19-9 win over the Redskins on Thursday. He also rushed twice for two yards.

Playing without Adam Thielen (hamstring), Cousins turned in his highest completion percentage (88.5) of the season and averaged an impressive 11.0 yards per attempt. Unsurprisingly, Cousins relied heavily on his two most talented healthy players, Stefon Diggs and Dalvin Cook, connecting with the duo for 12 of his 23 completions. Cousins fell just short of the 300-yard mark for the first time in four games, but he's now thrown just a single interception since Week 2. He'll look to keep up his strong play against the Chiefs in a Week 9 matchup a week from Sunday.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Throws four TD passes in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 24 of 34 pass attempts for 337 yards and four touchdowns during Sunday's 42-30 win over the Lions.

Cousins was masterful in this one, averaging 9.9 yards per attempt while completing 71 percent of his passes. He lost Adam Thielen to a hamstring injury early in the contest, but he was still able to complete touchdown passes to four different receivers and exceeded 300 passing yards for the third straight game. Cousins has a sparkling 10:1 TD:INT over that stretch and will next face a struggling Redskins team on Thursday night.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Another strong showing in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 22 of 29 passes for 333 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in the Vikings' 38-20 win over the Eagles on Sunday. He also netted zero yards on his two rushes.

Cousins exceeded the 300-yard mark for the second straight week and also threw a season-high number of touchdown passes. The veteran quarterback had his connection with Stefon Diggs working on all cylinders in the first half, hitting the speedy receiver for scoring throws of 62 and 51 yards in the second quarter. He made it a trifecta when he connected with Diggs again in the third quarter from 11 yards out to extend the Vikings' lead after Philadelphia had closed to within 24-20. Cousins now boasts a 6:1 TD:INT over his last pair of contests and will look to stay hot in a divisional showdown against the Lions in Week 7.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Sets season high in passing yardage
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 22 of 27 pass attempts for 306 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions during Sunday's 28-10 win over the Giants.

Cousins completed an impressive 81 percent of his passes while averaging 11.3 yards per attempt. He completed touchdown passes of 15 and nine yards to Adam Thielen, who had criticized the signal-caller's play heading into the game. It was a positive sign that Cousins responded with one of the most efficient games of his career while leading the offense to a comfortable road win. He'll have the chance to deliver a followup performance in next Sunday's favorable matchup against the Eagles.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Held in check by Bears
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 27 of 36 passes for 233 yards in Sunday's 16-6 loss to the Bears.

The completions, attempts and even yards were all season highs for the QB, but while he didn't throw a touchdown or interception, Cousins did fumble twice (losing one of them) in the face of relentless pressure from Chicago and got sacked six times on the afternoon. He'll take on a much less daunting defense next week in a road game against the Giants, but that won't necessarily translate to better numbers. So far this year, Cousins' usage has depended entirely on whether Dalvin Cook is dominating the opposition or not.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Efficient in Week 3 win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 15 of 21 pass attempts for 174 yards and one touchdown, while adding four rushes for 16 yards during Sunday's 34-14 win against the Raiders.

Cousins may be capable of registering his first career postseason win this season as the starting quarterback for the Vikings, but his individual numbers thus far in 2019 are a distant cry from those he established as a member of the Redskins. With a star-studded defense in Minnesota, of course, he isn't being asked to do nearly as much to help his team win games. It is a small sample size to this point, but after a typically-prolific 2018 in his debut campaign for the Vikings, Cousins is on pace for a 2019 completion rate of 58.7, with a shade under 2,700 passing yards, and 16 touchdown passes to 11 interceptions. In three full seasons as the starter for Washington, he never threw for fewer than 4,000 yards or 25 touchdowns. He certainly does not project to have a huge fantasy outing in Week 4, taking on a Bears defense that has only surrendered two touchdown passes over its first two appearances of the year.

Vikings' Kirk Cousins: Commits three turnovers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Cousins completed 14 of 32 pass attempts for 230 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions Sunday against the Packers. He also gained 17 yards on two carries and lost a fumble in the 21-16 loss.

Cousins struggled mightily in this one as he completed just 43.8 percent of his passes while averaging a pedestrian 7.2 yards per attempt. He lost a fumble on the second drive of the game and hurt his team's chance to come back with interceptions toward the end of either half. While he more than doubled his yardage output from Week 1, Cousins' inefficiency and carelessness with the football were a worrisome sight for fantasy owners. He will face a much more favorable matchup next Sunday at home against the Raiders.
