Schedule leaked?

February 11, 2012 9:28 pm

FWIW!   This is floating around as a "leak" of the 2012 schedule.  Posted from a usually relaibale source (photo taken of schedule posted on wall at Puskar), but there does appear to be a few question marks;  1)only 4 true road games...  2) date conflicts with a Tx Tech schedule that was "leaked" earlier...  3)  Okie/Okie St and TX/Tx Tech were originally said to be alternating home/away with WVU...  and 4) word is Okie is tryng HARD to get their first Conference game with WVU in Norman.  We shall see if it pans out this way, but thought some might be interested in seeing what is supposedly the new schedule:

9/1      Marshall
9/15    JMU (DC)
9/22    MD
9/29    Okie
10/6    K-St
10/13  @ Iowa St
10/20  @ Okie St
10/27  TCU
11/3    Baylor
11/10  @ TX
11/17  @ TX Tech
11/24  KS

Schedule leaked?

Though I know it is just as likely to be false as true until we see the final, official schedule, I would take that in a heartbeat for the first season.

Looks like the three of the top four teams in the league next preseason, other than WVU, would be coming to our joint. That would be huge.

I expect the preseason conference projections to look something like-

1. OU (home)

2. KSU (home) or WVU

3. WVU/KSU

4. TCU (home)

5. Okie State (away)

Obviously 4 and 5 could change just like I put KSU and WVU as interchangeable... I think this is similar to the B12 power rankings cloumn someone posted earlier. I think its about right.

Obviously Texas has enough talent that they could put it together quickly and shoot up those rankings/ standings.

Also, 8 home games would be nice in a year where we just shelled out $11m to bolt... the extra $10mish fromt he B12 and the roughly 8 game home schedule would put us about even from what we are used to, maybe a bit higher.

I would love this idea of having only 4 away games this season, but have my doubts that this will happen.  I do like the fact that we are scheduled to alternately play Texas and Oklahoma at home.  Would not want to play those two away in the same year.  I also like the idea of alternating the Texas/Texas Tech and Oklahoma/Oklahoma State games each year. The conflict with the Texas Tech game originally leaked to be played away on October 20 is also very suspicious.  I guess this is just a continuing saga which will end probably sometime early next week.  Thanks for the posting....

Isn't there also usually two breaks in a season as well? Having a buy in the second week of the season doesn't look right. Also, every game being on a saturday also doesn't seem accurate. Also, finishing with Kansas the Saturday after Thanksgiving? Blech.

I am not going to get caught up in speculating about a schedule.  I do not expect to walk into a new league and have a real favorable schedule, nor do I think WVU will be dictating who and where they play anytime soon.  Kansas on the Sat after Thanksgiving would be no different than RU or USF.

Agree.  One of my questions about this schedule.  But with the neutral site game with JMU, I guess they could look at it either way...
although before the Conference move I understood it was counting as a home game for WVU.   Undecided

Nah, not always the case.  MANY teams just have one bye and finish the season a week early (or have a "bye" on the last week).  I'm not sure anymore if it's the case or not...   but at one point, it was an individual Conference thing to not play the last week (Maybe those with Conference Championships??? -- not sure the reason).
I know a couple years ago EVERY Big 10 team had one bye and finished early.  I think it was pretty common for MOST Pac-10 and Big 12 teams too.  I haven't paid a LOT of attention to that the past 2 years...   but seemed to be less of a trend this past season.  I know the Big 10 DID have some teams that played the last week THIS season.

Don't like the timing of that either...  would prefer it to be more mid-season to allow injuries to heal.  But it happens time to time to some teams for scheduling reasons.  Being the "new kid", I imagine we're not going to get a lot of preferential treatment early on.

Also, every game being on a saturday also doesn't seem accurate.
LOVE those Thursday Night games!  Welcome small fish to the big pond???  Maybe we can EARN a Thursday game for 2013...

finishing with Kansas the Saturday after Thanksgiving?
Yeah...  hope they don't expect this to be our new "rival"!  Yell

I like the idea of getting Texas in Motown around that time o year if it stays close to this year in year out, no secret not only at Texas but many other good weather programs hate to play in snow/ cold, that could be a big advantage for us from time to time with the way Texas recruits. I'd like to have had LSU a lil later in the season this past year just to see, it most def helped break Auburns will a few years ago.

A few weeks ago when the schedule was supposedly released to the networks, I saw the TX schedule (don't remember the site or know how legit it was) which was apparently released to TX because of the Longhorn network.  It showed the November 10th matchup in Austin so that date may be correct.  Also I read that we were promised by the Big 12 that if we had TX away we would have OU at home and vice versa.  All I know is I'm excited to get my season tix and NOT see UCONN, Rutgers, USF etc...!!!!

I think because of the recent change in championships becoming more common you'll probably see that's not the case. I remember the big gripe about that is that if Team A wins their championship they might get bumped up in the polls over a team that hasn't played that week.
