Utah State takes a big hit with the loss of two players

Utah State started this season 14-1, but coming off two straight road losses, the program announced even worse news on Monday.

In USU's 64-51 loss Thursday at New Mexico State, junior Preston Medlin and senior Kyisean Reed were both injured in the second half. Medlin, the Aggies' best player, is now going to be away from the court for as long as two months due to a fractured wrist.

It could very well mean the rest of his season.

Reed tore his ACL, so he is unquestionably done for the year.

"First and foremost is our concern for Kyisean and Preston. This is as tough as it gets and we hurt for them first and our team second," USU coach Stew Morrill said in a statement released by Utah State. "We expect our players to step up and compete, as we have a lot of season left."

Medlin's a very fine player. He averages 16.3 points (the fourth-leading overall scorer in his conference), 3.5 boards and 3.2 assists. His 39-percent 3-point shooting was a boon to Utah State. Reed was another big piece, putting up 12.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Until recently, the Aggies were considered the WAC's best team, but now cede that to Louisiana Tech for the time being, especially with the news of these injuries,

Utah State's next game is Thursday night against Texas-Arlington, then it's a big home game against 16-3 Louisiana Tech on Saturday night.
